PhD Thesis
Development of a new polymer matrix material with continuous flax fibers for the external reinforcement of concrete structures
Abstract
Concrete structures, as any building material, undergo unpredictable degradation under environmental constraints. Moreover design errors or changes of use during the period of operation can also cause a change in solicitations. Among the different repair and reinforcement methods, the external bonding of glass or carbon fiber reinforced polymers (GFRP, CFRP) is now an approved and widely used method. These FRP apply an additional force to the concrete surface opposing the deformation and providing an extra layer of protection with the external environment.
My PhD is part of the development of this technique to more environmentally friendly materials such as flax fibers, in industrial collaboration with the national FIABILIN project, led by Arkema, for the promotion of technical flax fibers in composite technologies. The objectives of this thesis are multiple: to develop a composite with fiber reinforcement linen suitable for reinforcing concrete & to evaluate its behavior over the long and medium terms.
